Credit Recovery Options
Below is a list of credit recovery options for our students. It is our recommendation that when a student fails a class he or she makes it up as soon as possible, due to the fact that we cannot guarantee that the services will be available every year.
Summer School
The classes offered in Summer School are for basic courses only. The location of Summer School alternates between Shasta, Foothill and Enterprise every summer. The courses last four weeks and are held Monday – Friday. VERY LIMITED busing is provided. Students can only make up two classes. Example: 5 credits of Personal Growth and 5 credits of English.
Any Time School
This is offered both fall and spring semesters on an as need basis. There is no guarantee that a certain subject will be offered. Once we get 25 students signed up for a particular class it is then opened up for teachers to volunteer to take on the additional assignment. There is no specific time period, the teacher will set the schedule. The only certainty is that the class would be offered for a total of 60 hours and that it would be after school. Students can pick up the paper work in the counseling center.
Shasta College
Another option for students that are capable of succeeding in rigorous courses is to take college classes. One 3 unit class at Shasta College is equal to 10 high school credits. If a student chooses to pursue that option they need to be organized and follow the steps to becoming a concurrent student. Students/parents need to pay all expenses associated with taking a college class.
Online Classes
Many of our students choose to use Brigham Young University (BYU) as a vehicle for credit recovery. The cost is $126 for a 5 unit course. They have a textbook style of instruction as well as online. The $126 does not include the required mailings of assignments or the final exam. Students need to meet with their counselor and arrange for the proctoring of their BYU exams.
