English Department |
| Students
who plan to attend a university have four years of English.
All English courses include work in the areas of reading, writing,
grammar, vocabulary and spelling.
Students must earn passing grades in the required English classes.
Students who fail required courses must make up credit in summer
school in approved electives.
Students
may be placed in sections according to achievement.
Students are required to pass a District proficiency test in reading
and writing before graduation. There
will also be provisions for academically talented and advanced students
in designated sections. English
teachers will counsel their students at the end of each year regarding
course selection for the following year.
English courses in career pathway classes meet California State
English/Language Arts standards.
An
extra-class reading requirement exists for all students at EHS (600 pages
for CP level students; 300 pages for Pre-CP). Choices must be made from
the accelerated reader book list. The
Accelerated Reader Book List is available to assist students and parents
in selecting interesting and engaging reading selections based on each
student's individual reading grade level as tested during the first weeks
of school. Click HERE for
the list. |
